PURPOSE:To separate and remove efficiently and surely a fine hydrophobic substance mixed into a hydrophilic fiber from the fiber by adding a hydrophobic liq. having smaller sp. gr. than water and which does not dissolve the hydrophobic solid substance to an aq. dispersed liq. of the hydrophilic fiber, agitating, and separating the mixture into layers. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic liq. such as hexane (hereinafter referred to as a light liq.) having smaller sp.gr. than water and which does not dissolve a hydrophobic solid substance is added to an aq. dispersed liq. wherein a hydrophilic fiber such as the pulp of trees and plants and a fine hydrophilic substance of polyethylene, etc. are mixed. The mixture is agitated, and the light liq. is brought into contact with the hydrophobic solid substance. Consequently, the hydrophobic solid substance in the dispersed liq. having smaller sp. gr. than the light liq. is floated to the surface of the light liq., the hydrophobic solid substance having larger sp. gr. than the light liq. collects at the interface between the light liq. and water, and the hydrophilic fiber is settled at the water bottom. Three layers are thus formed. Accordingly, the fine hydrophobic solid substance mixed into the hydrophilic fiber can be separated and removed efficiently and surely.
