PROCESS OF GROWING MONOCRYSTALLINE SAPPHIRE HALF-FINISHED ARTICLES

FIELD: technique of growing crystals from melt with variable cross- section shape. SUBSTANCE: essence of process consists in that seeding is applied on a seeding plate all along the perimeter of tube-like shaper resulting in formation of hollow closed space. End surface of shaper is created with centered recess shaped as a spherical segment with height being in accordance with relationship:where h is radius of spherical segment and d is thickness of wall of half-finished article. Melt is drawn from its column. When hollow pattern becomes monolith, half-finished article is drawn to the distance of all its length and then crystal is sharply broken off from shaper. EFFECT: simplified shaping of crystals.
