PURPOSE: To provide a cooler and a cooling method for a generator-motor used for a power storage device which stores power, making use of the torque of the flywheel supported by a high temperature superconductive magnetic bearing. CONSTITUTION: A generator-motor 6 is cooled by introducing the nitrogen gas at a very low temperature made of gasified liquid nitrogen for cooling the high temperature superconductive magnetic bearing 12 supporting a flywheel 8 into inside of the stator 3 of the generator-motor 6 and onto the surface of the rotor 2 and the stator 3. Hereby, the generator-motor 6 can be cooled efficiently with a small quantity of nitrogen gas, and also efficient power storage can be performed without high vacuum within the power storage being marred. Furthermore, more efficient power storage can be performed, keeping the inside of the power storage always in high vacuum, by discharging the nitrogen gas having cooled the generator-motor 6 to outside of the air with a collector. |
