PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion chamber structure suitable for an inner- cylinder direct injection type spark ignition engine. SOLUTION: This inner-cylinder direct injection type spark ignition engine has a swirl control valve 26 for generating a swirl in intaken air flowed into a cylinder 5 from an intake port 21. A fuel injection direction of an injector 6 is set substantially samely as the flowing direction of the intaken air in the intake port 21. A cavity 11 is formed on a crown 10 of a piston 1 so as to introduce fuel to a vicinity of an ignition plug 4 by means of a swirl.
