<p>An internal combustion engine operating with fuel injection, the fuel charge of each cylinder of the engine being divided in two portions of different amount, injected sequentially starting with the portion of smaller amount. The two portions of the fuel charge are injected through their own injector in different combustion chambers, or through the same injector in the same combustion chamber. The smaller portion of the fuel charge is accumulated in the injector which delivers this portion of the fuel charge. The accumulation occurs during the injection of the larger portion of the fuel charge. The accumulated fuel is injected in the next cycle by fuel expansion. When the portions of the fuel charge are injected in the same combustion chamber the engine can operate with the large portion of the fuel charge preceded and followed by small portions.</p> |
