PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binding agent composition capable of a so-called clean casting and containing no component causing a metallurgical defect of the casting, so that it results in the improvement of a working atmosphere of a place to work in relation to steel or the like, mainly a foundry. SOLUTION: This preparation of particulate fire resistant aggregate molding comprises reacting phenols with formaldehydes using an acid catalyst in the presence of a high boiling point solvent, adding to a resulted novolak type phenolic resin an alkali metal hydroxide and a chelating agent which forms a stable composite with the novolak type phenolic resin, thereby obtaining a binding agent composition, mixing a particulate fire resistant aggregate with the binding agent composition, molding the resulted product into a desired shape and passing carbon dioxide gas therein to cure the molding.
