PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which excessive steam is added to exhaust gas generated in a metallurgical furnace to cause shift reaction in order to transform a waste organic substance, such as waste plastic and oil-containing sludge, into gas fuel or the like, to produce mixed gas (g) containing created hydrogen, carbon dioxide gas and steam that was not consumed in shift reaction, the organic substance is efficiently made become lower molecular weight by the mixed gas (g), and lower molecular weight reaction heat is supplied by an optimum facility and condition.SOLUTION: In a fluid layer furnace 2 for lower molecular weight which has granules whose real density is 4 to 8 g/cmand which contains at least one type of Fe, Ni and Cr at least as a part of a fluid medium, mixed gas (g) is brought into contact with an organic substance, and the organic substance is modified into lower molecular weight. Further, in a method for bringing an organic substance into lower molecular weight, char bi-produced by lower molecular weight reaction and fluid medium are introduced into a rotary kiln combustion furnace 4, air combustion is performed to the char in the rotary kiln combustion furnace 4, by which the fluid medium is heated, and the heated fluid medium is circulated into the fluid layer furnace 2 for lower molecular weight. |
