PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect temperature in the inner part of an optical disk without using an exclusive component and the like. SOLUTION: The micro computer 12 of an optical disk playback device 1 stores a table showing a relation between a gain and a temperature when a stepping motor (carriage motor 4) steps out in advance, the micro computer 12 gradually changes the stepping motor from a reference gain to detect step-out gain when information is not read out of an optical disk and the temperature in the inner part of the device is estimated to be an intermediate temperature between the step-out temperature of a step-out gain and a temperature shown when the gain changed last steps out from the table showing the relation of the gain and the temperature when the stepping motor steps out.
