PURPOSE:To make an optical fiber core wire connecting device small-sized by fitting a holding mechanism section to a supporting shaft so that the rotating locus of a holding section holding each optical fiber core wire is made the same predetermined position in the circumferential direction of each supporting shaft. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber core wire 1 is mounted on the long groove 12b of a holding section 12, and an advance/retreat driving section 13 is operated to retreat a holding section 11, then the core wire 1 is pinched between a long groove 11b and the long groove 11b. When a motor 42 is operated under this condition, a supporting shaft 20 is rotated via a pulley 43, and the holding sections 11, 12 are moved to three positions: in the vertical direction, forward and backward in the horizontal direction at a predetermined interval, thereby the core wire 1 is conveyed along the predetermined rotating locus in the circumferential direction. When a motor 51 is rotated in the predetermined direction at each position, a rotary shaft 52 is rotated by a belt 53, a pair of supporting shafts 20 are brought into contact or separated from each other, and the butt process of the core wire 1 held by holding sections 11, 12 can be performed. Accordingly, the device can be made small-sized.
