PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion device and a power conversion device control method, which can discharge power stored in a smoothing capacitor without an increase in device scale.SOLUTION: A power conversion device comprises: a semiconductor switch group which includes a smoothing capacitor C1 and a plurality of series connected circuits of a plurality of semiconductor switches; and a control part for switching ON and OFF of each of semiconductor switches Tr1-Tr6 included in the semiconductor switch group. The control part includes a gate drive circuit 21, a main control circuit 22 and a vehicle control circuit 15. When DC power is converted to AC power, a turn-on time of each semiconductor switch is assumed to be a first turn-on time and when power stored in the smoothing capacitor is discharged, the turn-on time of at least one semiconductor switch included in each series-connected circuit is changed to a second turn-on time longer than the first turn-on time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
