PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work supporting mechanism of a grinding device for high-precisely finishing a size ranging from the end face of the step part of a rod-like work with a step to a tip surface to be ground. SOLUTION: This work supporting mechanism of a grinding device for grinding the tip surface 1d of a rod-like work 1 with a step having a level-different part comprises a fixing packing plate 26 fixed in the machining position A of the rod-like work 1 with a step and supporting the end face 1f of the level- different part of the rod-like work 1 with a step fed in a machining position A, and a moving packing plate 27 movable to a moving-aside position spaced away from the machining position A of the rod-like work 1 with a step and a support position where the end face 1f of the level-different part of the rod- like work 1 with a step fed to a machining position is supported.
