<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an injection molding apparatus comprising a mold block, a nozzle, a gating system and a slug heater. <P>SOLUTION: The mold block 16 forms a mold cavity 32 with a mold cavity inlet. The gating system 18 comprises a valve pin 44 and an actuator 46. The valve pin is freely movable between an opening position where a melted body can flow into a mold cavity and a closed position where the valve pin closes a flow passage for the melted body so that the melted body does not flow into the mold cavity. The actuator moves the valve pin between the opening position and the closed position. When the valve pin exists at the closed position, a cooling system is provided on at least one of the mold block and the valve pin to selectively solidifying the melted body to form a slug just at the upstream of the valve pin. When the valve pin is separated from the slug, the slug closes the melted body flow passage to substantially stop leakage of the melted body through the slug. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
