The pressure in the crank chamber (7) is controlled in order to regulate the compression capacity, e.g. of a cooling medium. The compressor (1) includes a pressure sensor (53), to establish the delivery pressure (Pd) or the suction pressure; and a control unit (55) to determine whether the compressor finds itself in a pumping zone or not on the basis of the establishing signal delivered from the pressure sensor (53), and in order to raise or lower the compression capacity, if it is determined that the compressor (1) finds itself in a pumping zone.
