In an integral ashtray (1) for motor vehicles with a housing (2) securable to the vehicle in which a container (3) in the form of a drawer-like slide is movably fitted and can be moved from an inoperative position in the casing (2), for which a spring is provided by means of which the container (3) is taken to the position of use after a lock has been released, a space-saving structure avoiding the use of expensive guide components is achieved in that the spring takes the form of a spiral strip spring (12), one end of which is wound on a core (11), whereby the core (11) is rotatably secured to the casing (2) or the container (3) and the other end is secured to the container (3) or the casing (2).
