<p>1,268,474. Stripping compositions. CHUBB FIRE SECURITY Ltd. 23 Jan., 1970 [20 March, 1969], No. 3474/70. Heading C5D. Protective or decorative coatings of natural or synthetic rubber latex are removed by treating the article with an aqueous alkaline composition containing an accelerating mixture of (A) an alkylene glycol aryl ether, (B) tripropylene glycol or dipropylene glycol and (C) an organic N compound of formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may be the same or different and are H, hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyether groups containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms (at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 being other than H) such that the compound has a boiling point of at least 100‹ C. and a molecular weight of not more than 500, for such a time and at such a temperature that there is at least substantial loosening of the coating without appreciable attack on the article itself. Compound (A) may have the formula Ro(R<SP>1</SP>o) n H wherein R is monocyclic aryl radical, R<SP>1</SP> is C 2 to C 6 alkylene, and n is 1 or 2, e.g. ethylene glycol monophenyl ether. Compounds (C) include monoethanolamine, monodecanolamine, triethanolamine, diglycolamine and tri- [2(hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]amine. The alkaline material may be an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate, silicate, phosphate or mixtures thereof. A pH of 10 to 12 is preferred. Optional additions are (a) gluconic acid, alkali metal gluconates and glucono-delta-lactone; (b) anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants up to 10% of composition; (c) lignin sulphonates; (d) pine oil.</p> |
