PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device capable of generating still pictures which are picked up without missing unexpected shutter chance.SOLUTION: An imaging device has an optical system unit for controlling optical information representing a subject image, an imaging unit for generating image data from the optical information input from the optical system unit, an image processor for performing predetermined processing on the image data generated by the imaging unit, and a controller for controlling the optical system unit, the imaging unit and/or the image processor based on the setting on pickup of moving pictures to generate moving picture data. The controller has a first moving picture mode and a second moving picture mode (for example, photo moving picture mode) as recording modes for moving pictures. The controller automatically sets the setting on the pickup of moving pictures to a predetermined setting suitable for recording of still pictures (S14) in the second moving picture mode (YES in S12).
