Provided are a production method for fabric and a fabric, whereby both external appearance of the fabric and functions applied thereto by flat yarn are not impaired. A flat yarn (3) wider than a warp yarn (10) is further provided and the flat yarn (3) is passed through a heald (102) intermittently, relative to a plurality of warp yarns (10). Holes (102a) in this heald are vertically long relative to the heald travel direction. The vertical length direction in a horizontal cross-section of this flat yarn (3) is oriented towards the heald travel direction (M) as a result of causing the flat thread to pass through these holes. A fabric structure is configured and a plurality of fabric placement sections having flat yarn placed upon this fabric structure are formed lined up in the weft yarn direction (W), as a result of weaving weft yarn into the warp yarn (10). The flat yarn (3) is fixed to the fabric placement sections as a result of arranging the flat surfaces (HF) of the flat yarn (3), so as to be mutually facing, upon the warp yarn (10) in the fabric placement sections and by causing some of the weft yarn to pass through over the flat yarn (3). The fabric covered section can comprise a plain weave.
