The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material, a composite positive electrode active material, and a positive electrode and a lithium battery including the composite positive electrode active material, the method comprising the steps of: manufacturing a positive electrode active material precursor by mixing a transition metal source and a reducing agent; and manufacturing a lithium transition metal oxide by mixing and calcining the positive electrode active material precursor and a lithium source wherein a supply amount of the reducing agent is about 0.003 mole/hr or less with respect to 1 mole/hr of a supply amount of the transition metal element source.
