PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure quantitatively the degree of damage in a fine domain (1μm spot) inside a keratin fiber without separating cuticle or cortex cells. SOLUTION: In this method, a peak area (A) of at least one band selected from a group comprising an S-S band and an S-O band, and a peak area (B) of at least one band selected from a group comprising an amido I band, a C-H band and a phenylalanine band are calculated in a Raman spectrum measured relative to the inside of the fiber on a section acquired by cutting the keratin fiber in the lateral direction or in the vertical direction, and the degree of damage of the keratin fiber is evaluated based on the ratio of the peak area (A) to the peak area (B).
