<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a retardation film which exhibits a desired retardation, is rid of turbidity or yellowing and has high contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the retardation film includes at least a drying process using roller conveyance, wherein a web is heated and shrunk with a shrinking rate of 3% to 30% in the conveyance direction and with a shrinking rate of 1% to 10% in the direction vertical to the conveyance direction while drying the web at a temperature of the boiling point of a solvent used for a dope or more and of the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the film after drying or less and, thereby, the retardation film is provided which has: a retardation Ro in the film in-plane direction, of 30 nm to 300 nm; and an absolute value of Nz determined by the relation of Nz=Rth/Ro+0.5 by using the retardation Rth in the thickness direction, of 0.5 to 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
