A level switch having a sensor 10 and processing circuitry 11, the switch incorporating a near field communication (NFC) facility 17, 19 that communicates with an NFC reader 16 brought within an operating range. The NFC reader may be configured and sufficiently powerful to energise the processing circuitry and the sensor. The NFC facility and the NFC reader may be configured to exchange data between the NFC reader and the processing circuitry. They may also be configured to communicate calibration or diagnostic data both in the field and in the factory. The NFC facility and NFC reader may allow control of self-test or licensed functionality of the switch. The NFC facility and NFC reader may further include an access control facility to prevent unauthorised access. Specific product information (e.g. serial numbers and approvals information) may be read to and from the switch. The operating characteristics of the switch can be altered in the field to fine tune switching point and temperature parameters. The level switch may be a vibrating fork level switch. |
