The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for driving an organic light emitting display device which controls the consumption current of a display panel according to the peripheral temperature of a display panel or the temperature of the display panel including a light emitting device. An apparatus for driving an organic light emitting display device according to the present invention comprises a display panel which includes pixels having a light emitting device which emits light by a current; a temperature detection part which generates temperature data by detecting the peripheral temperature or the temperature of the display panel; and a panel driving part which controls a data signal to be supplied to each pixel in order to make the consumption current of the display panel a set current limit value or less based on the temperature data and input data.
