PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a buckling restraining brace which is simple in structure and high in rigidity. SOLUTION: A brace core 2 includes a plate-like brace body 4 which has extension parts 6 extending from both ends of a stiffening member 3 outward and a pair of flange pieces 5 which are fixed to the brace body 4 at the extension parts 6 on both sides, respectively, and which form the cross section of the brace core 2 in a generally H-shape in cooperation with the brace body 4. Each flange piece 5 includes an outer end 5g positioned near the end of the brace body 4 and an inner end 5e which is inserted into the stiffening member 3 and terminates therein. The stiffener 3 is formed of a pair of steel members 13 with an open cross sectional shape each of which includes a base piece 8 extending along the flange piece 5, a pair of side pieces 9 which are bent from both ends of the base piece 8 at an angle of approximately 90°and extend to near the lateral center of the brace body 4, and buckling prevention pieces 10 for suppressing the out-plane buckling of the brace core 2 by bending to the brace body 4 side and approaching and terminating at the brace body 4.
