To provide dry, clean gas efficiently for operation of gas bearings and motor cooling an impeller for separation and thrust balancing is provided, such as may be used in seal-less oil-free compression for example in down-hole gas compression. In particular, apparatus for handling fluid and separating a component from the fluid and expelling that component is provided. Also, apparatus for handling fluid and generating a pressure difference is provided. Further, apparatus for handling fluid and forming opposing pressure fields is provided. Further yet, apparatus for handling fluid and generating a centrifugal field is provided.
