Provided in embodiments of the present invention are a method and device for displaying a network name. During a joint attachment process or a joint tracking domain location update process, a mobility management entity (MME) in a first network determines whether or not the operator to which a public land mobile network identifier (PLMN ID) corresponding to the first network belongs is identical to the operator to which a PLMN ID corresponding to a second network belongs. If not identical, then the MME transmits network name information to the UE, thus allowing the UE to display the network name corresponding to the network name information, where the first network and the second network are networks that the UE jointly registered to during the joint attachment process or the joint tracking domain update process, the first network is a long term evolution (LTE) network, and the second network is either a 2G network or a 3G network. Use of the technical solution ensures that the network name displayed by a terminal is consistent with the network name that is recorded by a network device to have been displayed by the UE.
