The invention comprises a heat storage system based on sensible heat, that uses the physical properties of different types of specifically arranged gravels. It is used in processes that require the storage of thermal energy for subsequent manageable use, and specifically in the field of renewable energy that uses energy from the sun as the primary source of energy for subsequent conversion into electricity, as is the case with solar thermal energy. The system for charging and discharging the thermal energy stored is implemented using a network of pipes distributed uniformly and in layers, which transfer the thermal energy generated to the gravels, as a function of their thermal conductivity ratio and density of the materials.
