A method, apparatus, and computer program for detecting changes in system information of a radio access network are provided. A terminal device of a cellular communication system is arranged to employ a default procedure in which a change in system information transmitted by a cellular radio access network is detected from a change indicator comprised in at least one paging message received from the cellular radio access network on a paging channel. However, in connection with the terminal device entering a cell, the terminal device is arranged to receive system information associated with the entered cell and to verify validity of the received system information by checking a system information tag broadcasted in the cell on a broadcast channel, the system information tag indicating whether or not there has been a change in the system information. Prevents the terminal device from operating with outdated system information when entering a cell near the modification period boundary.
