<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel advantageous in terms of maintainability, thin-walled property, low aberration, and others. <P>SOLUTION: A lens barrel 1(6) incorporates an optical element 20 and a drive mechanism for moving the optical element 20. At this point, the outer wall of the lens barrel 1(6) has openings 30 formed facing components 22-27 of the drive mechanism.
