920,983. Slat and lath fabrics; laminates. GENERAL BOX DISTRIBUTORS. March 24, 1961, No. 10916/61. Classes 74 (2) and 140. [Also in Group XXX] A laminate comprising outer layers of paper with a row of wooden slats arranged side by side and adhesively bonded between them is made by a continuous method in which two webs of paper are moved forward, adhesive is applied to their inner surfaces as they move, a row of slats arranged side by side is formed and moved forward to a position between the webs after adhesive has been applied to them, to form a composite web which is then pressed to bond the paper webs to the faces of the slats. As shown, webs 21 and 24 of paper from rolls 22 and 25 are coated with adhesive at 26 and 27. Slats 5 from hoppers 7 are delivered on to a conveyer 2 which transfers them to another conveyer 9, which feeds them into the nip between rollers 15 and 16 round which the adhesivecoated paper webs are also fed. The layers are pressed together first by the rollers 31 and 32 and then by the endless belts 33 and 34 of foraminous metal. These convey the laminate through an oven (not shown) in which it is heated by hot air to set the adhesive. On emergence from the oven, the edges of the laminate are trimmed, and it is cut into pieces of convenient length. The slats may be in contact with one another or, as shown, may be spaced apart so that the paper layers may be directly united between the slats. |
