Apparatus for burning refuse comprises an incinerator 10 having a double wall formed by spaced inner and outer wall elements 28, 30, the space 32 between said wall elements having an air inlet 34 for the entry of air from the atmosphere, conveying means 42 for introducing refuse into the incinerator, at least part of which conveying means is enclosed by a housing 40 and hood 44, means for delivering air heated by passage through said wall space 32 via a conduit 38 into the conveying means enclosure to dry refuse being conveyed therein, and means for delivering air from said enclosure via a conduit 56 into the underside of a grate 14 in the incinerator for use as combustion air. |
