A pupil covering state detection device (20) is provided with a line-of-sight direction detection means (22) for detecting the direction of the line of sight of a driver, a brightness gradient calculation means (23) for calculating the brightness gradient of an image of an eye region, a gradient intensity calculation means (24) for calculating a gradient intensity vertical distribution, a gradient intensity storage means (25) for storing data relating to a reference gradient intensity vertical distribution when the direction of the line of sight of the driver is the direction of an instrument panel, a difference calculation means (26) for calculating a difference between data relating to the gradient intensity vertical distribution in a present frame and data relating to the reference gradient intensity vertical distribution, an evaluation value calculation means (27) for calculating an evaluation value indicating the possibility that a pupil is covered, and a pupil covering determination means (29) for, when the evaluation value indicating the possibility that the pupil is covered continues over a predetermined number of frames or more, determining that the pupil is covered.</p> |
