PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periphery monitoring device of a vehicle which can surely extract an object at the periphery of the vehicle to quickly inform a driver of the vehicle. SOLUTION: The periphery monitoring device includes: an object position specifying means which is mounted to a vehicle and specifies positions of objects at the periphery of the vehicle; an imaging means which is mounted to the vehicle and acquires an image of the periphery of the vehicle; a multi-valuing means which acquires a multi-valued image of an image by the imaging means; a mask setting means which sets prescribed-sized masks corresponding to the respective positions of the objects to the acquired image corresponding to the positions of objects specified by the object position detection means; a multi-valuing threshold setting means which sets thresholds for multi-valuing of the corresponding image per mask set by the mask setting means; and a determination means which determines whether a prescribed object exists or not on the basis of the multi-valued image obtained by the multi-valuing means using a corresponding threshold for multi-valuing.
