A titanium-alloy anode for use with a direct, impressed current, anti-corrosion system contains more than 50% by weight of titanium and at least one other element such as cobalt, nickel, manganese, zinc, or tin capable of lowering considerably the strong polarization potential associated with titanium when used on its own. The alloys, which may contain other additives such as aluminium, advantageously contain between 0.5% and 10% by weight of manganese or this amount of manganese with an equal amount of aluminium. Manganese and tin are preferable addition elements. The polarization effect of certain alloys can be further reduced by heat treatment, e.g. by annealing, or quenching, followed by tempering.
|
