PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode structure for fixing a coil on a head section so as to prevent a winding-starting or winding-terminated end section of the coil and a projected section caused from existing, by welding at a rear side of the coil in an electrode for a high-pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: In the electrode for the high-pressure discharge lamp constituted of a core bar (10), a head section (20), and the coil (30) for covering the head section, the head section is provided with a smaller-diameter section (21) at a core bar side and a larger-diameter section (22) at a tip side, and the coil is provided with a first coil (31) for covering the small diameter section and a second coil (32) for covering the large diameter section. The first coil is covered at a multilayer so as to make both ends (31a, 31b) located at the tip side of the small diameter section; the second coil is covered on the larger-diameter section so as to come in contact with the first coil; both ends of the first coil and at least a part of the outermost turn at a core bar side of the second coil are welded each other; and at least a part of the outermost turn at a coil end (32a) side of the tip side of the larger-diameter section of the second coil is welded on the larger-diameter section.
