<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a lipolytic enzyme variant having a modified amino acid sequence and having a substrate specificity tailored for a specific usage, since the substrate specificity of the lipolytic enzyme can be modified by altering the amino acid sequence in a defined region of the lipolytic enzyme so as to increase the desired activity level or to decrease the undesired activity level. <P>SOLUTION: This method for modifying the substrate specificity of the lipolytic enzyme by modifying the amino acid sequence, and the lipolytic enzyme variant obtained by such the modification are provided.
