PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element in which achievement of high efficiency and life-prolongation of the element are promoted by suppressing absorption of light in a visible region by a charge transfer complex that is used to occur in a conventional intermediate layer constitution in the organic EL element having multiple photon structure, and by improving resistance property of the intermediate layer against counter-carriers. SOLUTION: In the organic EL elements of the multi-photon structure, which is formed on a substrate 1, and in which a plurality of pieces of light-emitting units 4 including at least one layer of light-emitting layer are laminated via the intermediate layer 5, and between an anode layer 2 and a cathode layer 3 which is its opposing electrode, the intermediate layer 5 is formed by mixing or lamination of an organic compound with an electron accepting material or electron donating material, and has an element constitution in which the charge transfer complex is not formed.
