PURPOSE: A device and a method for saving the power of a plasma display panel are provided to automatically control power consumption by measuring the power consumption of a PDP TV. CONSTITUTION: A user interface(17) receives a user request command. A power supply unit(11) supplies power. A current and voltage measuring unit(12) measures the current and voltage of the supplied power. A power controller(13) calculates the instant power consumption and power quality based on the measured current and voltage. A memory(14) stores instant power consumption and power quantity, a preset instant power consumption limit value, a power quantity limit value, and a power control factor table(15). A video signal processor(16) varies the sustain waveform and the average brightness level of an input image signal according to the compared result of the preset instant power consumption limit value and the measured power consumption. A PDP module(18) displays an image signal outputted from a video signal processor. |
