PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symbol synchronous tracking device and a method for the same, in which, even if a channel environment is followed by a phasing in a short cycle and long cycle, its situation is considered and a setting of a phase reference axis is appropriately performed thereby synchronization is maintained. SOLUTION: When the phase reference axis is determined based on an average value of the required number of FSW symbol phase values, it is decided whether or not the quality of the channel environment is good based on a result of an error correction process upon data demodulation, and the number of average computing target frames upon FSW symbol phase average value computing or the number of symbols being a target for average computation is increased and decreased based on a quality decision result of the channel environment.
