PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyether-based polymer having both high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution, and containing an oxirane monomer unit having a halogen atom and an alkenyl group; and to provide a method for producing the polyether-based polymer. SOLUTION: The polyether-based polymer is produced by ring-opening polymerization of an oxirane monomer unit having at least one functional group selected from halogen and alkenyl in the presence of an onium salt of a compound containing an atom of group XV or XVI in the periodic table and a catalyst comprising trialkyl aluminum wherein all alkyl groups contained therein are linear alkyl groups.
