PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber for a fiber laser having high quality and high optical output, and being capable of providing output light in a single mode, and to provide a fiber laser. SOLUTION: This optical fiber 11 for a fiber laser oscillating laser light by amplifying an excitation light comprises: an optical fiber 2, having a core with a rare-earth element added therein and a cladding formed around the core; and a mode filter 6 arranged at a tip part of the optical fiber 2.
