The control unit (1a) has a rotating element i.e. suction belt (8), defining openings (10), and a suction device cooperating with the rotating element to pull blanks (2) towards the rotating element. Separating devices e.g. sliding pieces (4, 5), are in contact with the blanks in front of the rotating element to separate the blanks, when the blanks are drawn from the suction device. The separating devices are connected with fixed frames (20), and are separated from the rotating element. The sliding pieces are arranged on sides of the rotating element and are spaced from each other.
