<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a shifting device equipped with a stable function and a momentary function. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The arrangement includes a lever position sensing part 5 to sense the operating position of a shift lever 2 and a changeover mechanism 6 to switch the stable mechanism 3 and the momentary mechanism 4 in accordance with the sensed lever position. This allows switching between the stable mechanism 3 and the momentary mechanism 4 to be conducted by a single row of moving the shift lever 2, so that the manipulating surface for the shift lever 2 can be formed smaller, and it is possible to facilitate the layout of the shifting device 1.
