<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject state determination device for clearly differentiating between blown breath by a subject and a disturbance element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This subject state determination device comprises an index component detecting means for detecting the index component concentration contained in the subject's breath, and a directing means for directing the subject to breathe on the state detecting means in a predetermined specific pattern. The subject state determination device determines the state of the subject based on the index component concentration detected by the specific component detecting means in a period corresponding to the direction by the directing means.
