PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for concentrating sludge where not only power consumption is not needed, noise lies in a low level and chemical feeding equipment is not required, but also the recovery efficiency of sludge is 100%, and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: In the sludge concentrating method where waste water including sludge components such as waste sludge, raw sludge and their mixture in a trace ratio is introduced into a tank body of a treatment tank equipped with a filtering unit, and further, moisture is sucked away through the filtering unit while stirring the inside, thus the sludge in the tank is controllingly concentrated and is drawn to the outside of the tank, the stirring is performed by a circulation action where the introduced waste water and the stored waste water in the tank are made to a rising stream by an air lift action by diffused air generated in a guidance pipe for stirring vertically provided in the tank, so as to be introduced into the tank.
