PURPOSE:To apply confidentiality of coded information while keeping the compatibility of facsimile communication by applying scrambling to coded information based on data designated by the user in storing the coded information. CONSTITUTION:Various modes (selection of communication service and opposite telephone number) of an original to be stored and its own password are inputted to an operation section 4. A reader 1 reads the data of an original, a coder 2 uses the password as scramble data, applies coding and stores the result in a storage memory 3. In sending data, the data is read from the storage memory 3, the password is used and an inverse scrambler 7 of a controller 5 applies scrambling and converts the data into the original code and the result is sent to a line 8.
