A superconducting cable that is capable of absorbing any shrinkage of normal conducting wire rod at cooling by simple structuring. There is provided a superconducting cable comprising superconducting layers (superconducting conductor layer (12) and superconducting shield layer (16)) and, disposed at least either inside or outside the superconducting layers, normal conducting layers (normal conducting conductor layer (11C) and superconducting shield layer (17)). A stress relaxing layer is provided inside the normal conducting layers. Structuring is made so that any radial shrinkage of the normal conducting layer caused by refrigerant cooling is absorbed by stress relaxing layer (11B). ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
