<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an outside easy to be gripped and novel by suppressing that a hand moves in the direction of a writing tip part by not only fingers but also a part between the fingers at the time of gripping the gripping part of a journal at the time of gripping the gripping part of the journal, and making the outward forms of the tip part side of the journal and the rear end part side of the journal roughly the same in a mechanical pencil which advances a chuck to dispatch a lead. <P>SOLUTION: The mechanical pencil covers a body 7 with a grip 10, radially reduces the outward form of this grip 10 gradually from the tip of the outward form of this grip 10, and forms in a slope state or an arc state radially increasing gradually toward a rear end. Further, a sheath 18 is mounted at the rear part of the body 7, and this sheath 18 is covered with an outer sheath 17. The outward form of this outer sheath 17 is gradually radially reduced from the tip, and is formed in a slope shape or an arc shape radially increasing gradually toward the rear end.
