A dual-mode relay station and a network access method, a mode conversion method and a control station thereof are provided. When it is accessing a network, the dual-mode relay station negotiates with its control station to determine whether accessing the network in a terminal mode, if it is selected that accessing the network at a terminal mode, after it accesses the network, a relay function of the dual-mode relay station can be activated based on service and network demand, and it is converted to be the relay mode and works. The dual-mode relay station and the control station both can initiate a request for activating the relay function of the dual-mode station. In the mode conversion process, firstly, the relay station and the base station negotiate to active the relay function of the dual-mode relay station, and negotiate a suitable path for activating the relay station. Then, the dual-mode relay station determines whether setting the work mode of the dual-mode relay station to the relay mode based on the negotiation result.
