EYE OPENING/CLOSING STATE DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect an eye opening/closing state of a subject even if the subject wears eye shadow.

SOLUTION: The eye opening/closing state detector comprises an imaging means for taking an image of the subject's face; and an edge extraction means for extracting an edge of the taken image. The vertical width of a white area in the eyeball position of the subject is calculated based on the extracted edge, and the eye opening/closing state is detected based on the calculated vertical width of the white area.
