PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of increasing the accuracy of a printing position by correcting the error of detection by a photosensor, caused by the light and shade of a mark for detection or a difference in the opacity of release paper. SOLUTION: In this tape printer, a die-cut label sheet is carried; and from a time when an encoder mark faces a reflection sensor so that a sensor level can reach a threshold or below (S9:YES), the sensor level is stored in a RAM as the need arises (S10). When the sensor level reaches the threshold or above (S11:YES); a minimum value is determined from among the sensor levels stored in the RAM (S12); a preset and a predetermined distance d up to a thermal head is corrected on the basis of the minimum value; and a corrected carrying distance D is computed (S13).
